Happy Tuesday, book people! 

I am seriously pumped for today for the following reasons:

1. It’s ACOFAS release day!! And while some of you have already devoured the 28 new chapters of Night Courty goodness, I will be reading the newest aco-installment tonight after it arrives on my doorstep. It will be read today though so #1 it shall stay!
2. It’s Tony nominations day!! If you know me at all, you know I love me some theater and today’s the day I get to see who’s getting some love.
3. It’s John Mulaney’s Kid Gorgeous release day on Netflix! I am obsessed with Mulaney’s comedy and will be watching this on top of reading ACOFAS! It will be done!
4. It’s my mother-in-law’s birthday, a week before my birthday, AND the day I get to have dinner with my two besties!!! Yeah, technically that should have been 4-6 but you know how people are with lists…

This week’s topic is Books I’d Slay a Lion to Get Early. I’m anti-lion violence, so I’m gonna just stick with general slayage. So grab a stake and let’s check out my TOP TEN BOOKS I’D SLAY FOR!

1) King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo – 01/29/19

ZERO effort has been made to hide my affection for Nikolai. And even though Queen Leigh herself said ARCs would be impossible due to all the secrets and twists, my favorite pirateer has taught me that: “when people say impossible they usually mean improbable.”

2) The Wicked King by Holly Black – 01/08/19

I mean is a description for this second installment even necessary or is it simply understood why it’s on my list? I’m assuming it’s the latter, but in case it’s not just know that anyone that has read The Cruel Prince would understand why I’d straight up murder* for an advance copy of this fae-quel. *I wouldn’t actually murder someone, but for real, if you have a spare copy that you’re cool with lending out for a weekend…*

3) Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan – 11/06/2018

I was really late to the party with this one. Well, as late as you can be 7 months before it releases. Several of my trusted blogging buddies already secured ARCs for this diverse YA fantasy and I wish I had requested sooner. But alas I did not, and that’s why it’s on my list.

4) The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy by Mackenzi Lee – 10/02/18

Last June you couldn’t go anywhere without seeing GG2V&V — and rightfully so! Lee has such a witty and entertaining writing style that earned her heaps of hype throughout the community. Centering on the strong-willed Felicity, LG2P&P is sure to deliver in shenanigans and snark, which means it needed to be in my hands yesterday.

5) Vengeful by V.E. Schwab – 09/25/18

Whether it was The Monsters of Verity series, the Shades of Magic series, or book 1 of the Villains series, odds are you didn’t escape 2017 without reading SOMETHING by Schwab. And while the other series are complete, Vicious — and its readers — are dying for book 2. 

6) Escaping from Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco – 09/18/18

Beyond the stare-worthy covers, this bloody series gets better and better with each new addition. But what landed this ARC on my list is that fact that Maniscalco has confessed that it and the final copy will have drastically different endings and I MUST KNOW BOTH! I don’t care who I need to stalk or hunt, I’m determined to escape this waiting period!!

7) Darkdawn by Jay Kristoff – 09/04/18

I realize that most of the books on my slay list involve anti-heroes and darker plotlines. So this light and carefree Kristoff read should help bring some sunshine to the list. HA! Beyond having the best cover of the 10, Darkdawn is a fantasy novel I’d go full apocalypse mode over in order to acquire. And you wouldn’t even have to beep me.

8) All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover – 07/17/18

Jokes aside, you guys know I’m a true blue CoHort. I’m absolute trash when it comes to her sob-worthy novels. They’ve become my autobuys that appear — without fail — in my mailbox the week they release. So having this one well before July would be (dare I say it?) perfect!

9) A Reaper at the Gates by Sabaa Tahir – 06/12/18

I’m not going to lie this series jumped up my TBR after meeting Sabaa last month at the North Texas Teen Book Festival. Less than 2 minutes into her panel and I wanted to be her best friend. After since friends support friends, I can confidently say that I’d Vader the crap out of someone for an early copy.

10) The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang – 06/05/18

It felt wrong for someone that’s usually so contemporary heavy to not have more than one on her list. Enter TKQ. Despite dropping soon, this is a book that’s remained under the radar but is reviewing extremely well. I’ve done the math, and I think it’s the perfect way to wrap up this list.
