Good morning, book nerds!
I hope everyone had a lovely weekend! It was rainy and gross here, but that means I got some serious reading done. I started and finished my very first graphic novel (Fence Vol. 1), Christina Lauren’s newest romp (Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating), and dived into a new series. I’d tell you which one, but as of writing this I was still taking votes on IG. Beyond reading, I spent the rest of the weekend watching football with my boo who’s starting night school today!! ❤ I’m so excited he has the courage to dive in and try something new for our futures, but I’m also selfishly bummed that many of my evenings will now be lonelier without him! That just means I’ll need you guys to reach out Monday through Thursday to keep me distracted! Deal? Deal! =D
As y’all know most of August was devoted to reading (and catching up on) ARCs, so I was actually pretty good in terms of spending this month! Now if this haul included bookish goods (candles, sub boxes, etc) that would be a different story! But lucky for me I don’t have to tattle on myself just yet! Continue on — if you dare — to My August 2018 Book Haul!

Super Awesome Replacement Giveaways:
Nevernight by Jay Kristoff*
*For those of you that don’t know, I came home one night and discovered — much to my horror — that my puppers had gone ape over my signed, personalized copy of Nevernight. Photos of the terror can be seen here. I put the destruction and crying emojis on Twitter and it took Jay (read: my hero) less than an hour to offer up a replacement. I was so shocked by this unsolicited act of kindness and I can’t stress to y’all how much it meant to me. Not only did Jay mail me a new signed & personalized copy, but he also included signed swag and some drawings — see Mr. Kindly above. I sent him a lengthy thank you note and included a picture of my Belle promising to treat this book better*

Frankie by Shivaun Plozza – from Montana @BookBelles

Reaching the end of this haul I know it doesn’t look as small as I claimed it would be, but my point was that I didn’t spend too much on books. My library was blessed with some epic giveaways and gifts this month and I couldn’t be more thankful! How were your August hauls? What was your favorite newly acquired book of the month? Have you read any of my newly hauled titles? Did we share any books this month? Let me know below!
And, as always, Happy Reading!
Jay is the greatest! I sent a signed copy of Lifelike to a friend overseas and it never arrived, so I asked if he would re-sign a copy and he sent me other bits as well to send. Basically the greatest human ever.
Also, Fence!! Yay!! I can’t wait for the next issue!!!!!!

I totally agree! I keep hearing tales of Jay’s generosity and it makes me adore him even more! I’m so glad that worked out for you & your friend! And yes, I LOVED Fence. I can’t decide whether to wait for Vol. 2 or buy the ebook version and get answers now lol

I get the issues each month, but I also live in the same city as the author (and Jay) so I can get them signed (eventually) and I can’t wait for Volumes to be published!! 🙈

I have so much respect for Jay now. He’s so nice to his readers.
I can’t get over your puppet’s face in that photo. 😂

Right? I honestly was flabbergasted. I put the destruction on social media so that I would have people understand my pain — cause my nonreading family didn’t truly get it, you know? And to have him go truly above and beyond like that?? Loyal fan for life!
And I know isn’t her face ridiculous?? We were filming a video talking about how we were going to be kind to books from now on and that was her apologetic/listening face. Makes me crack up every time I see it!

I’ve seen only a few authors do that before. We don’t get that that often anyways. I e read one book of his, but this makes me want to read all of his books.

Right? Like I’m sure that’s not why he did it, but he got a super loyal fan out of the deal.

I think he’s done it several times now, which makes him so much better as an author.

I was pretty smitten before, but definite cool points were earned.

I was told RULE is a lot like that, so I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing…

Uh… well you know how much I hated RULE… so LOL
I am definitely going to reserve judgement until I see your review. I hope you enjoy it!

Loved this post! I was so sad to hear that your dog tore into Nevernight before you could get to it, and it’s so cool that Jay sent you another copy!

Yeah it’s so crazy too because she’s ALWAYS around my books and never does anything like that. My hubby thinks it’s because I had just finished a buddy read and it smelled like me and that’s why she was extra playful. The verdict is still out on the why, but I’m thanking all my lucky stars that Jay was able to replace it for me! =D
Thanks for the love and the comment! ❤

The cover art and synopsis are so intriguing, right? I’ve heard from a few friends that it’s a solid read! Happy reading when/if you get to it!
