Top Ten Tuesday #33
Hey there, book nerds!
To steal a line from DEH: “Today is going to be a good day, and here’s why:” 1) It’s TBR topic day, which means I’m going to be adding a bunch of books to my ever-expanding list 2) My hubby surprised me this morning by taking care of AM duties so I could sleep in and 3) I’m going to an author Q&A/Meet and Greet tonight with Tessa Gratton and Natalie C. Parker! I haven’t read either’s most recent release yet (to be fair Tessa’s drops TODAY), but I’m very excited to meet this duo and learn more about their careers and inspiration. Does anyone have a question they’d like me to ask and report back? Let me know below!
Now it’s time for another seasonal edition of TOP TEN TUESDAY!Hosted by Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl, this week’s topic is devoted to seasonal TBRs. Whether you call it Fall or Autumn, these next few months are sure to deliver some of the best books of the year and I can’t wait to see what’s made your lists! But y’all are here to check out my Fall selections so without further ado let’s check out my list of TOP TEN BOOKS FALLing INTO MY AUTUMN 2018 TBR!
1) Wildcard (Warcross #2) by Marie Lu – Release Date: 09/18/18 (TODAY!)
I’ve been waiting for more than a year for this sequel answers, and I really hope this book doesn’t let me down. I was so invested in the first novel, and I hope this story continues that pattern.
2) Vengeful (Villains #2) by V.E. Schwab – Release Date: 09/25/18
This is another one of those “fingers crossed it lives up to the original novel” books, but let’s be real we know it’s going to. The cover art alone gets it a star. Making an asexual lead canon gets it a star. And we all know this tale of vengeance is going to be at least 3-stars…so yeah…go ahead and pre-order this now.
3) The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner – Release Date: 09/25/18
Slowly, but surely, this Russian-infused Goblin Market retelling has been taking over my feed. I’ve seen several glowing reviews from trusted peers and can’t wait to dive into the atmospheric world Rossner has crafted.
4) The Lost Sisters (The Folk of the Air #1.5) by Holly Black – Release Date: 10/02/18
Because the universe REFUSES to lend me an advanced copy of The Wicked King, I will lick my wounds bide my time with this companion novella.
5) What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera – Release Date: 10/09/18
Have you read the synopsis? Did you see what pair was co-authoring this contemporary? Did you notice it mentioned BROADWAY twice? I mean you’re kidding yourselves if you think wild horses could drag this musical theater nerd away from this novel!
6) Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore – Release Date: 10/09/18
Swan. Lake. Retelling. That is all.
7) Fight or Flight by Samantha Young – Release Date: 10/09/18
This time of year is usually dominated by fantasy/sci fi series so I always like to work a few contemporaries into the mix. Adding one that features an enemies-to-lovers plot line is akin to getting upgraded to the first class cabin!
8) One Day in December by Josie Silver – Release Date: 10/16/18
I’m not going to lie (and I admit this is petty) but I’m super bothered that this second-chance-ish romance isn’t being released “one day in December.” Seems like a missed opportunity to me, but who am I to say? Taking place over a decade this emotional story should serve as a great bridge to the winter season.
9) An Assassin’s Guide to Love & Treason by Virginia Boecker – Release Date: 10/23/18
You guys have probably gathered that I’m down for Shakespeare retellings/plot lines. Whether it’s in cutesy romcom form or serious thrillers, the Bard — and those he inspires — can weave some seriously enjoyable stories. This is one I haven’t heard much about, but seems like it would fit in nicely with my collection.
10) Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan – Release Date: 11/06/18
I included this on my Top Ten Tuesday post back in May and the months of waiting have only made me more eager for this diverse fantasy! I’m seriously debating caving and ordering the October FairyLoot to acquire a signed copy of this beauty, but I’m also trying to responsible. #Adulting. #IllProbablyCave #WhatDoYouThink
That’s it! The titles that should occupy most of my Autumn reading! Have you read any of these Fall reads already? Did any of these make your TBR? Let me know below!
And, as always: Happy Reading!
I finished Wildcard in one sitting yesterday. Oh was it worth the hype. If any YA readers aren’t running to get a copy right now I’d ask them what they were even doing. Just an explosive story and pretty good as far as Marie Lu endings go! She’ll never be the kind of author to give us an undiluted Happily Ever After with sunshine and rainbows but I couldn’t ask for a better ending for Wildcard.
Very, very excited for Vengeful as well.

That’s so good to hear, Alyssa!! I’m so nervous about it because I’ve seen two camps: 5-Star love fests and 2-Star what was she thinking rants. So good to hear it was a positive experience for you! =D

I’m very excited! I feel bad going into it blind (because I haven’t read either release), but I’m hoping they won’t mind! =D

I don’t think they will mind too much, I am sure they will appreciate the support! I sent my best friend to Somaiya Daud’s signing for me and she hadn’t read Mirage LOL

Yeah I mean I guess future readers are just as good as former ones! =D I’m just so excited! It’s rare we get author events here because the tours are usually coast-heavy so I’m just thrilled to get a chance to meet them!

Thanks so much! I’ve heard super positive things about What If It’s Us & Girls of Paper and Fire. I haven’t really heard anything about Assassin’s yet, but the premise and Bard-connection is what lured me in! Did you make a list this week?
