My Thoughts:

The true joy of music is its ability to flash you back to a specific moment in time. And this song will always take me back to three pivotal memories — the most important of which being the summer I fell in love with my husband. You see, memory one transports me back to that special season between the end of high school and the start of college where everything felt new & exciting. I remember cruising in his blue Explorer on summer nights screaming singing the lyrics to this entire album (I’m looking at you “The Suffering”) on repeat until we finally broke it up with some Silverstein or Taking Back Sunday. Memory two flashes me back to our 4-year-long-distance relationship (separate universities) where my hubby (then boyfriend) would play this song to me on his guitar before we ended our nightly phone calls. This is pretty much when that song became synonymous with comfort and love. And memory three takes me to the morning of our wedding (8 years later) where I received a text message from him while getting ready (since we decided we wouldn’t see each other at all the day of until I was walking down the aisle) that was an audio clip of him playing our song. I can’t even describe the emotions I felt that day, and am thankful my makeup wasn’t yet applied!
