Naughty or Nice: Book Edition TAG

Hey there, book nerds!!

First and foremost, I apologize for remaining a day behind the #HolidayADVENTure series!! Between my dad having major surgery, trying to spend quality time with my hubby before he’s LA bound, work, life, Christmas, and sleep, I haven’t been able to publish them as quickly as I would have liked. These posts are designed to make the creators feel super duper special because of how much they’ve helped me throughout the year, so the last thing I want to do is rush them. I appreciate your patience and hope these additional posts will tide you over till I’m back in the swing of things! 💚

I was “tagged” by the lovely Destiny to participate in the “Bookish Naughty or Nice Tag.” It seemed like a fun & festive way to continue to celebrate the holiday season while shaming me for my bookish sins! This tag was created by the talented Jenn, whose art is featured below!

The Rules:

  1. Tag & link the person who tagged you!

  2. Tag & link the creator!

  3. Cross off the ones you’ve done!

  4. Tag more people!

Received an ARC and not reviewed it✅

Unfortunately, yes! HOWEVER, I do intend to review every ARC I’ve been fortunate enough to receive. I have a few reading challenges I’m partaking in come 2019 that will hopefully let me clear my remainders out! 🤞

Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley✅

Well, you see…the thing is…

…I’m currently at 56%. *Screams and hides in no-longer-secret shame*

But again, thanks to some readathons and reading challenges coming up in January, I do expect to fix this shame-inducing rating pretty darn quickly!

Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)✅

The “Full RTC” phrase haunts my dreams, y’all! It’s used and abused and a BIG habit I’m going to try and break in 2019. I keep a running list of all my “reviews to come” with full intention of returning back to all of them…one day…

Folded down the page of a book

HA! Finally a bookish sin I can resoundingly claim to be false! I’m certain that even as a child I refused to submit my books to this treatment. Not judging (read: sorta judging) anyone that does this, but that’s so not my style!

Accidentally spilled on a book

I don’t typically eat or drink around my books because I’m unmistakably accident prone, but I have lost a few books to water damage back when my apartment flooded. Does that count as accidental spillage?

DNFed a book this year✅

It breaks my heart to admit it, but I did DNF my VERY FIRST book this year. However, I’m not certain it counts as a true DNF because I stopped ONE PAGE into the book. It actually sparked a whole book chat

Bought a book purely because it was pretty, with no intention of reading it?  ✅ ❌

I’m going .5 on this one, and here’s why: One of the things I like to do when I travel abroad is purchase one of my favorite books in that country’s native language. It’s always a book I’ve read before, but it’s usually in a language I can neither read nor speak…so…maybe to this one???

Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)✅

I mean duh! My sister-in-law relentlessly teases me about reading at a “party” once. My hubby yells at me when I catch up on pages at red lights. And I used to speed read in between interviews at my old job. So yeah, this is a definite yes!

Skim read a book

While I have skimmed a book that I’m rereading to get to “the good parts,” I’ve never skimmed a new-to-me book.

Completely missed your Goodreads goal

This is only my third year of participating in the Goodreads reading challenge, but I have managed to complete my goal all 3 times! *Insert uncoordinated victory dance*

Borrowed a book and not returned it to the library? ❌

Unless I did this as a wee child, I’m going with no. If I know I’m not going to finish a book by it’s due date, I’ll renew it. But no matter what it’s going back to the library when I’m done.

Broke a book buying ban? ❌

This is a no, but only because I’ve never put myself on a book buying ban. The only time I really splurge on books is if there’s a massive sale (ex: Black Friday) or if I have gift cards from my birthday, holidays, bonus, etc. Although trying to reorganize my library tonight to fit recently hauled purchases tells me I probably should go on one in 2019…after the GCs and holiday hauls of course! 😉

Started a review, left it for ages, then forgot what the book was about?

Here’s the thing, I’ve written “RTC” more times than I’d care to admit. It’s an ugly habit, that we’ve already discussed I’m trying to break in ’19! However, if I sit down and actually start writing the review, it’s getting written! The problem I have is taking the time to start them instead of diving into my next read.

Wrote in a book you were reading? ✅

Yes, but never in a nonprofessional book. When I was running my marketing business I’d highlight, underline, and write notes about how to deliver the message in the story I was reading, or what questions to ask where, but never in my “for fun” reading.

Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads? ✅

I’m certain this is true. Probably not during the past three years when I was keeping track of reading goals, but any of the books I read prior to that…lost to the abyss.

Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend? ✅

I HATE to have been this person, but I’ve totally been this person. 🙈 It’s been years, but that shame doesn’t expire.

Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book

Between my mom, my mother-in-law, BOTH sisters-in-law, my brother, and my bestie I’ve got no less than 15 books “out in the wild” at any given time. None of these lovely people have given me a reason to doubt their trustworthiness thus far, so hopefully it stays that way.

Broke the spine of someone else’s book

Oh my gosh I’d probably cry. And then buy them a new book. I think the only book I’ve ever broken the spine of is book 1 of my HP collection due to sheer number of rereads.

Took the jacket off to protect it and ended up making it more damaged?❓

Who’s to say? I’m certain I’ve gotten fingerprint smudges on my naked hardbacks, but I can’t imagine that would be worse than keeping my book jacket on and getting it marked up, ripped up, or damaged.

Sat on a book accidentally✅

Hahaha! Yes?? I have no recollection of ever doing this, but I can’t assume I haven’t ever done this…so…sure?

SCORE: 10/20 (Rounded up)

How boring! I’m 50ish% naughty and 50ish% nice. Hopefully Santa will still come and visit me! Let me know your scores below!!

Tagging: You!

We’re SUPER duper close to Christmas so if you haven’t been tagged in a holiday post and are looking to do one, consider yourself tagged!! ❄️🎅🤶🦌⛄❄️

Come back this evening for my belated Dec. 12th #HolidayADVENTure post, which I promise will happen and will eventually be back on track…

Isn’t it a fun one? Jenn knew what she was doing!! I’m super glad you enjoyed it, May!!

Yeah I don’t know with reviews I’m all or nothing. I’ll write the whole thing in one sitting within 24 hours of reading the book, or I’ll “RTC” it and who knows when it’ll ever see light of day again! lol

      Hope you’re having a wonderful December! ❤
