Top Ten Tuesday #45
Afternoon, book nerds!
I’m currently in a state of turmoil because of Fairyloot’s Queen of Nothing box. I was so excited when I initially heard about that box that I had my mother-in-law prepped to purchase it the minute the email went live in order to not miss out. (Obviously I would have reimbursed her, y’all lol).
But here I sit, on my lunch break, sadly typing because I’m trying to be a fiscally responsible adult. 😔 You see, I just had to drop around 3/4ths of my most recent paycheck 🤢 at the car shop over the weekend and I still have more time-sensitive items on my to do list (upcoming doctor’s visits, more car fixes, other bills, etc.) so I think I’m going to have to ADULT today and pass on this hyped box. 😭
I know it’s the right thing to do and trust me when I say I’m using this as fuel to start taking ACTUAL STEPS to improve my current situation, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t blue at the moment.
But y’all aren’t here for my melodrama, you’re here for TOP TEN TUESDAY!Hosted by Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl, this week’s topic is “Books I’ve Read That I’d Like In My Personal Library.” And while I think that’s a super solid prompt, I’m currently trying to avoid bookish purchases (as you probably gathered from above), so this topic was one I needed to avoid this week!
Last week, I shared with y’all my color-inspired twist of Top Ten Red Reads. It got a lot of positive feedback, so I decided to continue on that path and present you with my next 10 colorful selections! And just like last week, I’ve decided to split the list between titles I’ve read and titles on my TBR.
With that being said, let’s go ahead and dive into my: Top Ten ORANGE Reads!
The Read Orange Books:
1) The Wrath & The Dawn by Renée Ahdieh
Released: 05/12/15 ★ Current Rating: 4.15 ★ Read Date: 01/15/16
Opening lines: “They were not gentle. And why should they be? After all, they did not expect her to live past the next morning.”
2) Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Released: 10/20/15 ★ Current Rating: 4.31 ★ Read Date: 03/23/18*
Opening lines: “So here’s the file that almost killed me, Director. I won’t bore you with the tally of databases plundered, light-years jumped, or cute, sniffling orphans created in its compilation — our fee already reflects Level Of Difficulty. But this dirt is out there, if you know where to look. Seems your cleanup crews weren’t quite as thorough as you’d like, and your little corporate war isn’t quite as secret as you’d hoped.”
*Read multiple times*
3) Tiger Lily by Jodi Lynn Anderson
Released: 07/03/12 ★ Current Rating: 3.97 ★ Read Date: 09/02/16
Opening lines: “Let me tell you something straight off. This is a love story, but not like any you’ve heard. The boy and the girl are far from innocent. Dear lives are lost. And good doesn’t win.”
4) Bright Side by Kim Holden
Released: 07/04/14 ★ Current Rating: 4.39 ★ Read Date: 11/20/16*
Opening lines: “Text 1: ‘What’s up, turkey butt?’ Text 2: ‘Aw, you know, just drove thirty hours straight or something like that, I honestly lost track. I haven’t slept in what, two, three days? I downed like two dozen Red Bulls and fifteen gallons of coffee. So, the usual I guess.”
*Read multiple times*
5) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling
Released: 07/21/07 ★ Current Rating: 4.62 ★ Read Date: 07/26/07*
Opening lines: “The two men appeared out of nowhere, a few yards apart in the narrow, moonlit lane. For a second they stood quite still, wands directed at each other’s chests; then, recognizing each other, they stowed their wands beneath their cloaks and started walking briskly in the same direction.”
*Read multiple times*

This is such a varied list and I love the idea behind the post! The only one on your TBR that I’ve read is Circe, and I can highly recommend it, it’s super empowering. I hope your car is fixed and you can treat yourself to some new books soon – sounds like you deserve it ❤️

Aww you’re very welcome 😊 Circe does have a pretty irresistible opening line – in fact the entire book is endlessly quotable! I’d love to hear what you think once you get around to reading it X

OMG TAYLOR!! I am so proud if you for adulting, even if it sucks. Sending hugs, and like, it’s not going to be *that* different from the other books. I promise the story will be the same!! (I know this is little encouragement, but I’m trying to help!!)
Also, ILLUMINAE!! ❤️🧡💛 So good!! I am glad it made your list, and I really need to read The Wrath and the Dawn!! 💕

Thanks, Kal! And no worries. It’s unreal levels of first world problems, but I was in the heat of the emotion, you know?

Okay so I love this idea so much! I love you doing it by color and also what you’ve read and haven’t read. I got so excited seeing Shadowland (The Mediator #1) on this list because that just gave me flashbacks to back in the day. It was a series I really enjoyed when I was younger. I also enjoyed Nice Try, Jane Sinner since it’s based off Big Brother. I hope you enjoy those when you get to them!

Thank you so much!! I didn’t realize Nice Try, Jane Sinner had a Big Brother connection now I’m even more intrigued to dive in soon!
I appreciate your support of my twist and hope to continue with additional colors in the future!

Oh yes I hope to see you doing more posts about the different colors in the future!
