Top Ten Tuesday: TEAL Reads

Top Ten Tuesday #49

Happy Tuesday, book nerds!

As I write this intro my hubby is telling me: “You’re supposed to be done.” I guess that means it’s “bedtime” and I need to call it a night. Probably for the best as 1) It’s super late and I have work bright and early in the morning and 2) I’ve been working so much on the blog and bookstagram, I haven’t had time to read. And that’s super problematic because this blog’s going to need fresh content soon. Maybe I can sneak in some reading if I log off real quick? Wish me luck, y’all!
Screen Shot 2020-01-01 at 9.33.04 PMIt’s time for another round of TOP TEN TUESDAY!Hosted by Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl, this week’s topic is “Bookish Discoveries I Made In 2019.” I was going to try the group topic this week, but the only idea I came up with for “bookish discoveries” was authors that were new to me in 2019. And despite the fact that I read more than 10 new-to-me authors last year, the post just wasn’t coming together like I wanted it to. Therefore, I decided (per usual) to do my own thing.

Back in September, when I was regularly partaking in TTT posts I had been working my way through the colors on my shelf. These color-inspired lists highlighted the top titles I’ve read and the top titles on my TBR for the week’s featured color. I’ve done REDORANGE, YELLOW, and GREEN books, and now it’s time for TEAL!

Scroll on down to see which books made my Top Ten TEAL Reads!

The Read TEAL Books:tread1) This Cruel Design by Emily Suvada

Released: 10/30/18 ★ Current Rating: 4.17 ★ Read Date: 02/09/19

Opening lines: “It’s midnight, but the sunset is still fading into darkness, the day stretched late by our northern latitude and the Earth’s axial tilt. A million-strong flock of passenger pigeons soars above me, the tips of their feathers glowing faintly, like a swarm of fireflies.”

2) The Selection by Kiera Cass

Released: 04/24/12 ★ Current Rating: 4.14 ★ Read Date: 11/27/15

Opening lines: “When we got the letter in the post, my mother was ecstatic. She had already decided that all our problems were solved, gone forever. The big hitch in her brilliant plan was me. I didn’t think I was a particularly disobedient daughter, but this was where I drew the line.”

3) The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

Released: 05/30/18 ★ Current Rating: 3.90 ★ Read Date: 06/26/18

Opening lines: “‘I know you hate surprises, Stella. In the interests of communicating our expectations and providing you a reasonable timeline, you should know we’re ready for grandchildren.'”

4) Always Never Yours by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka

Released: 05/22/18 ★ Current Rating: 3.85 ★ Read Date: 05/04/18

Opening lines: “‘All the world’s a stage…’ Brian Anderson’s butchering the line. I listen for the posturing and borderline mania Shakespeare intended, but — nope. He’s doing some sort of half English accent and throwing iambic pentameter out the window.”

5) Get A Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert

Released: 11/05/19 ★ Current Rating: 3.94 ★ Read Date: 11/26/19

Opening lines: “Once upon a time, Chloe Brown died. Nearly. It happened on a Tuesday afternoon, of course. Disturbing things always seemed to happen on Tuesdays.”

The TEAL TBR:ttbr6) Beartown by Fredrik Backman

Released: 09/15/16 ★ Current Rating: 4.26 ★ On TBR Since: 06/21/17

Opening lines: “Late one evening toward the end of March, a teenager picked up a double-barreled shotgun, walked into the forest, put the gun to someone else’s forehead, and pulled the trigger. This is the story of how we got there.”

7) An American Marriage by Tayari Jones

Released: 01/29/18 ★ Current Rating: 3.97 ★ On TBR Since: 12/30/19

Opening lines: “There are two kinds of people in the world, those who leave home, and those who don’t. I’m a proud member of the first category.”

8) Heretics Anonymous by Katie Henry

Released: 08/07/18 ★ Current Rating: 3.90 ★ On TBR Since: 04/23/18

Opening lines: “There is something truly evil about plaid. It might look like just a crisscrossed grid of colors, but in my experience, much like comets and black cats, plaid is a harbinger of doom.”

9) The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

Released: 11/05/19 ★ Current Rating: 4.06 ★ On TBR Since: 12/18/18

Opening lines: “There is a pirate in the basement. (The pirate is a metaphor but also still a person.) (The basement could rightly be considered a dungeon.) The pirate was placed here for numerous acts of a piratey nature considered criminal enough for punishment by those non-pirates who decide such things.”

10) The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros

I hope you were able to sneak in some reading! I spent all day today trying to draft a week’s worth of blog posts and now I’m just tired and feeling like I’ve earned a nap and a few chapters, at least. xD

I never would have thought of teal, but I love it! It’s such a pretty color. I really need to read This Cruel Design. The writing is so pretty. This reminds me that I never did finish Beartown, either. I should do that, too.

Teal is my favorite color, and I think I must favor it with books as well because I’ve read several and several are on my tbr. 😉 My favorite was Beartown and I’m most excited to read The Kiss Quotient. Great list, and gorgeous too.<3

I’m getting a lot of teal love on this post and it makes me happy. It’s such a bright and fun color so I totally get it! TSS cover is the UK cover and that color was just too appealing to say no to! =D I’m off to check out your list!

Thanks so much! I’ve been doing the color series for a few weeks now, but teal seems to be the fan favorite! =D I think I’m biased to Always Never Yours because I got an arc and it was my first exposure to the writing duo. TCD is book 2 of a phenomenal series and I hope you love it when/if you get to it!
