Top Ten Tuesday #50
Holy cats, book nerds!
Can you believe this is my FIFTIETH installment of Top Ten Tuesday?? I know some of y’all are in the hundreds/stop counting years ago, but that’s a pretty major milestone for me! I don’t have the time to check, but I’m curious to know how many of the 50 prompts were ones I ditched to do my own thing. 😂 I’ve been told by many that my solo TTT prompts are basically my brand™️, and I’m not mad about it.
Celebrations aside, it’s time for another round of TOP TEN TUESDAY!Hosted by Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl, this week’s topic is “The Ten Most Recent Additions to My Bookshelf.”
If you follow me on my other social media platforms, you know I’ve been working on reorganizing my library for several days now. Nothing, and I repeat: NOTHING, will encourage a book buying ban quite like reorganizing your currently owned books. And because I’m trying to limit my book purchases, I’m going to add a small twist to this week’s prompt and focus on the recent additions to my TBR shelf instead. Pretty self explanatory, right?
Check out which books made my Top Ten Recent Additions To My TBR Shelf below!
*Click the title links for full synopsis*
1) The Will and the Wilds by Charlie N. Holmberg
Releases: 01/21/20 ★ Current Rating: 4.16 ★ Added to TBR: 01/20/20
Reason added: Sammie’s review put this book on my radar, but the comparisons to Howl’s Moving Castle, Labyrinth, and Beauty and the Beast in early reviews made me add it to the TBR.
2) He Started It by Samantha Downing
Releases: 04/28/20 ★ Current Rating: 4.26 ★ Added to TBR: 01/20/20
Reason added: After all the hype surrounding Downing’s debut, I put her name on my “to watch” list. So it should come as no surprise why her sophomore novel made my TBR list — despite its Michael Bay-esque cover.
3) The Other Side by Kim Holden
Released: 06/05/19 ★ Current Rating: 4.54 ★ Added to TBR: 01/19/20
Reason added: If you’ve been with me since the beginning, you know I’m a Holden fan. Her novel, Bright Side, is one of my all-time favorite contemporaries — even if it wrecks me every. dang. time. So you can imagine my joy when I discovered she’d dropped another emotional contemporary last year, which somehow escaped my radar until now. If it weren’t for my arc schedule, chores, and this blog, this book would land on my “Currently Reading” shelf rather than my TBR.
4) The Day The World Came To Town: 9/11 in Gander, Newfoundland by Jim DeFede
Released: 08/14/03 ★ Current Rating: 4.18 ★ Added to TBR: 01/10/20
Reason added: As y’all know from yesterday’s post and my fangirling over Come From Away, I’m incredibly intrigued by the real-life story of how thousands of passengers became stranded in Gander on 9/11. The musical did an incredible job of pointing out how the city accommodated for such a diverse group of people, and I can’t wait to read a more thorough account via DeFede’s journalistic account.
5) Such A Fun Age by Kiley Reid
Released: 12/31/19 ★ Current Rating: 4.01 ★ Added to TBR: 01/19/20
Reason added: Several trusted friends have been hyping this novel for weeks, and it seems like you can’t log onto Bookstagram without seeing someone singing this book’s praises. Between Reese and my book club, I had no choice but to add this to my TBR. 😂
6) Hunted By The Sky by Tanaz Bhathena
Releases: 06/23/20 ★ Current Rating: 4.38 ★ Added to TBR: 01/07/20
Reason added: I stopped for that cover art, but I stayed for the warrior magic. Set in medieval India, this YA fantasy is giving me all the right vibes and I can’t wait to dive into this world.
7) The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel
Releases: 02/15/20 ★ Current Rating: 4.12 ★ Added to TBR: 01/10/20
Reason added: This literary thriller wound up on a handful of my friends’ “most anticipated reads” lists from two TTT’s ago. And although this sounds nothing like Emily’s previous work, her writing is next level and this new addition practically added itself to my TBR.
8) The Life and (Medieval) Times of Kit Sweetly by Jamie Pacton
Releases: 05/05/20 ★ Current Rating: 4.53 ★ Added to TBR: 01/08/20
Reason added: A YA romance that’s compared to the 2001 classic A Knight’s Tale? Do I need any additional details before adding this contemporary to my TBR? No, the answer is no.
9) The Next Together by Lauren James
Released: 09/03/15 ★ Current Rating: 3.65 ★ Added to TBR: 01/10/20
Reason added: Emer’s high praise for this “duology” is what landed this book on my TBR list. The book, which features romance, time travel, science fiction, historical fiction, and fantasy elements seems like it’s going to be a wild (and confusing?) ride. But if I trust Emer (and I do), it’ll be a ride worth taking.
10) The Predator by RuNyx
Released: 01/01/20 ★ Current Rating: 4.55 ★ Read Date: 01/07/20
Reason added: The final book on this list is also probably the most unique in the sense that it’s fanfic turned novel. I discovered this dark romance thanks to Merline’s blog post explaining it’s Arrow connection. I truly don’t know what to expect, but I promise to keep y’all posted.
Hope you guys enjoyed this week’s installment of Top Ten Tuesday. Have you read any of these titles? Are any of these books on your TBRs as well? Did this post inspire you to add any of them to your ever-growing list? Let me know below!

I’m very excited to see what it’s all about given your review!! Did you end up reading all the short stories too or just the two main books?

Just the main books because I keep forgetting there are short stories lol! I need to get them on my kindle already 😂😂

I was curious because the first short story/novella is listed before book 1 and I wasn’t sure if it was necessary to read beforehand.

I’m SO tempted to download He Started It On Edelweiss BUT lol! I talked myself off that ledge cause I’d really like to read the authors debut. Hunted By The Sky totally made it onto my Kindle though cause #noshelfcontrol 😉
Happy reading my friend! ❤

I’ve withheld from downloading He Started It as well, but thanks to this post (and your comment) I literally just caved and DL’d Hunted. So yeah…

I so wanted an ARC of Such a Fun Age, but it wasn’t meant to be. Hopefully I can pick it up soon! I’m also excited to read The Glass Castle. Great choices! ❤

‘The Will and the Wilds’ is on my wishlist as well 🙂 I liked other novels by the author so am always keen to check new ones out. I’m happy to see that people compared it to ‘Labyrinth’! That’s my favourite movie!!

I totally get the author loyalty. I’ve never read any of their backlist, but I’ll be looking into it if I enjoy The Will and the Wilds. =D
