I don’t know about y’all, but writing up this post has me jonesing for rereads of these beloved books/series! But I really need to knock that off because I have way too many new releases & backlists titles to be diving back into books I’ve already read…multiple times…

It’s time for another round of TOP TEN TUESDAY!Hosted by Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl, this week’s topic is “Books that Should be Adapted into Netflix Shows/Movies.” I spend a lot of my free time watching movies on good ol’ Netflix so I’m a big fan of this week’s prompt. And while I know book adaptations don’t always deliver like we’d hoped, there are some recent gems that prove it can be done! And done quite well! So I don’t know who at Netflix needs to see this post, but here’s hoping I’ll get to see some of these on my screen someday. 🤞🤞

1) The Illuminae Series by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Forgive the photo for missing Obsidio, my BFF currently has my copy! 

I’m honestly shocked this sci-fi trilogy hasn’t already been adapted for the screen. Anyone that’s read this mixed media space thriller or listened to its full-cast audiobook can understand why it would make a fantastic movie or series. I NEED to see my space babies brought to life so I’m hoping this one gets the chance one day!

2) Sky In The Deep by Adrienne Young

I fell so hard for this atmospheric debut back in 2018, and it made me a lifelong Young fan. Between the feuding Viking clans, vivid depictions of battle, delicate explorations of family, and a slow burn romance for the ages, this fantasy has all the elements of great cinema.

3) The ACO Series by Sarah J. Maas

How have I never taken an ACO-based photo on my IG page???

I’m like 99.89 percent sure this fantasy series will dominate today’s topic. Not only is it beloved in the community (for the most part), but it’s also got enough twists & turns to keep the plot interesting for broader audiences.

4) The Grace Year by Kim Liggett

This dystopian novel has lingered in my mind since I read it last year. I was instantly hooked by the world Liggett built and was intrigued by the mystery of “the grace year.” From the flower presentation and Crucible-esque hysteria at camp to the treehouse scenes with “redacted for spoiler purposes” and the sparks of revolution throughout, The Grace Year would be a visual masterpiece for Netflix.

5) The Caraval Series by Stephanie Garber

I was bewitched from the opening line of this magical trilogy, and I’m so eager to see this “game” brought to life. Garber was bashed a bit in book one for her purple prose, but I’m telling you that level of detail made every scene feel “spectacularly bigger,” and will be an invaluable asset to future setmakers.

6) Foul is Fair by Hannah Capin

I’m sure you guys are tired of me raving about this book on here, but hello a modern Shakespeare retelling with unapologetic females seeking vengeance on prep school f**kboys? Who doesn’t want to see that movie?

7) The Warcross Duology Marie Lu

I mean just look at that character art of Emika Chen! If the rainbow-haired, tatted hacker isn’t proof positive that this would be an amazing book-to-screen adaptation than take a gander at that synopsis. Coupled with the tech-heavy futuristic setting and the virtual reality of the game itself, this duology would be streaming gold!

8) Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

Although I haven’t read Blood & Honey yet, I believe Mahurin’s debut was magical enough to earn its greenlight. I loved the French setting, the forced marriage between sworn enemies, the banter & the charming supporting characters. I can’t wait to read more of their journey and to see them on my Netflix homepage one day!

9) This Mortal Coil series by Emily Suvada 

Beyond the fact that this post-apocalyptic series launched This Mortal Squad and solidified my friendship with two badass ladies in the bookish community (Love you Kal & Bex), its full to the brim with sci-fi goodness worthy of Netflix. Tackling genetics, coding, big tech, and bigger plot twists this series is one I’d love to see on my screen sooner than later.

10) The Killing November duology by Adriana Mather

This YA thriller is set in a boarding school that trains assassins for espionage missions. Assassins for espionage missions. Do I need to say more? Packed with action, students with generation-spanning family feuds, and enough twists to keep the pages turning into book 2, this series would be a delight to watch on the screen!
