Top Ten Tuesday: Binge With Me — TV Edition

Top Ten Tuesday #31

Welcome back from vacay, book nerds! I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day weekend! Despite the extra day off, I’m certain I’ll be riding the struggle bus for at least part of the morning (she says writing from the past), and hope y’all are fairing better. I say this because I spent most of the weekend down for the count due to allergy attacks and sinus issues. Symptoms aside, I did manage to take in a Bama watch party and successfully draft my 2018 fantasy football team. So success?

Due to the surprise allergens-fueled attacks, I spent a lot of the weekend in a bed-rest position, which gave me time to jot down this week’s TOP TEN TUESDAY post!Hosted by Jana at ThatArtsyReaderGirl, this week’s topic was “Bingeworthy TV Shows/Amazing Movies.” And y’all, I don’t want to make a big deal out of it, but I’m ACTUALLY doing this week’s prompt. *Insert fanfare* Assuming you’ve calmed from the shock and awe, let’s dive into how I finalized my list! First, I chose to focus on TV shows instead of movies because outside of movie series “bingeworthy” seems more appropriate for shows. Second, I left off shows that I initially loved, but lost track of over the years (ex: Grey’s, Modern Family). Finally, I left off shows that probably would have made my list years ago, but aren’t my go-to binge shows today (ex: Lost, Dexter, Gilmore Girls). I know a lot of you might not be bingers, but if you want a glimpse into my most watched shows feel free to check out my list of TOP TEN BINGEWORTHY TV SHOWS.

 BC1 (1)1) FRIENDS

This might be a “children of the 90s” thing, but this is a show that will always bring me back to my high school days. In fact, I remember stopping a show choir audition practice session so my friends and I could gather round and watch the series finale. And while it now lives in syndication land, if you ever want to buddy binge this, I’ll Be There For You! 😉

2) Parks and Recreation

I’ll be honest, I slept on this series when it first premiered, but if you could see my current number of views via Hulu/Netflix my devotion would be clear. I don’t know if it’s because I say “literally” more than Chris Traeger, or because Leslie Knope is literally my spirit animal in fictional form, but this show just speaks to me. Also, I think it’s unbelievably fitting that Jerry is the only cast mate that got cropped out of that photo!

3) Brooklyn Nine-Nine

This diverse show not only makes me feel contented, but also makes me laugh harder than any other show on this list. I don’t care if it’s my first or fifteenth viewing, odds are I can’t make it through a full episode without laughing out loud. And I’m thanking my lucky stars it got saved/renewed because losing this show before it was ready would have sucked more than The Vulture.

BC2 (2)4) Buffy the Vampire Slayer

A hellmouth, brooding vamps, wise-cracking witches, a sing-along AND the O.G. chosen one? What more could you ask for as a teenager in the late 90s/early 00s? I remember getting mono my freshmen year and my dad driving to Best Buy to purchase season 1, which I literally binged during my waking hours. I was sucked into the Sunnydale scene and forever changed.

5) Game of Thrones

Never have I ever felt more popular than revealing I had an HBO Go password during Thrones season — especially after the second wave of fans hit the scene post Red Wedding. Wrapping up next year, this show has dominated the past few years for my friends and family and I’m not sure where to turn for my next fantasy fix. (Also this show will always make me think of my honeymoon and touring King’s Landing in Croatia while my hubby sang the GOT theme song!)

6) Veronica Mars

Despite my marshmallow status, I am the first to admit that this show started stronger than it finished. However, my loyalty to LoVe and this “epic story” knows no bounds. I remember fangirling so hard over Veronica’s spunky character because I had never seen anything quite like her on the small screen. If you have any other sleuthy recs, please let me know below!

7) Scandal

Like Veronica, this show captured my attention (and loyalty) because of its badass female lead. I remember when the show premiered falling fully under the Pope spell and wanting to be a gladiator in a suit. In seven seasons the show took some outrageous twists and turns, but it’s one I can always return to and enjoy like it’s my first time in D.C.

BC1 (2)8) Top Chef

I’m not going to lie, I’m absolute TRASH for this reality cooking show. Like buying episodes on iTunes (remember the days lol) because your college dorm room doesn’t get Bravo devoted. Maybe it’s because I was a fan from season 1, episode 1, but I look forward to this show every time it’s live. And if you don’t like it, “please pack your knives and go.”

9) Ellen:The Ellen Degeneres Show

This is the only show on this list that I honestly don’t watch as it comes out. This isn’t a daily watch or every Thursday routine for me, but it is a show that makes me happy whenever I encounter it. This show exudes joy, entertainment, and happy tears and earns its spot as a bingeable favorite.

10) The Challenge (Real World/Road Rules Challenge)

You’ve made it to the end and we’ve reached the guilty pleasure item on my list: The Challenge. The show that somehow defies time and continues on a near-endless cycle with people much too old to be acting the way that they do. But does that stop me? Nope. I don’t care if one day CT’s battling it out with Bananas & Derek on their Rascal scooters, imma be there for it.

Now you know a lot more about my television tastes. Are there any other fangirls out there for these shows? Did we share any binge-worthy favorites? Based off these titles, is there another/a new show I need to start watching asap?? Let me know below!

And, as always: Happy Reading!

I rewatch Buffy so much I can tell what season an episode is just by the beginning 😛

And Veronica Mars, omg! I hear there’s going to be a Revival? Can’t wait!

Hahah my best friend used to tease me because I knew which opening sequence went with which season! So glad to know another mega fan! Were you a fan of the whole show of did you prefer the beginning or end better?

Also I haven’t heard much about the revival yet (beyond that it’s happening) but I’m on board for whatever they throw at me!!

I missed out on doing a TTT this week (laziness) but the first shows I thought of were Supernatural and Buffy. 🙂 I spent my maternity leave after I had my son binge-watching the crap out of some Supernatural. I think there were 9 seasons at that point.

Oh, I LOVE Brooklyn 99!! It’s my favorite show and it’s honestly the best. I completely relate; I can’t watch one episode without laughing; this show is so hilarious, heartwarming, and simply amazing. 💙 And ikr, I’m SO happy NBC picked it up for season 6 (and I agree, haha, if B99 actually ended, that would’ve sucked more than the Vulture does ☹️). Who’s your favorite character(s)? (I honestly love the whole squad, but if I *had* to choose, I’d say Jake, Rosa, and Holt.)

I’ve also heard great things about Parks and Rec; I really need to start watching that soon! I also started watching Friends over the summer and really enjoyed it. I’m now on season 2! ☺️

Oh man picking a favorite member of the Nine-Nine is a tough question. I think I laugh the most at Jake & Holt. I think Gina has some great scenes too!

If you start Parks and Rec let me know! It’s one of those shows that truly finds its stride by Season 2 so keep with it until the final cast is there.

Oh, good old Parks and Recs! ❤ Love that show. I think i'm going to re-watch it when the weather gets miserable, cuz it always cheers me up 🙂

I love Game of Thrones as well. For quite a long time i refused to watch it cuz it was so far ahead the books, but then i gave in because it feels like the book will never come out, so why am i waiting… 😀

It is such a comforting show! I love that since the almost cancellation the fans are finally being vocal. I had no idea other people even watched it beyond me because I never heard anyone talk about it ever!! And I feel you about GoT. I remember when the series starting passing the books and I no longer felt “in the know” and I was like this is what nonreaders always feel like??? Lol

Oh you’ve picked some amazing TV shows, and some of these are all time favourites of mine as well. I’ve got that whole ‘child of the 90’s’/Friends thing going on too. There always seems to be an episode playing on the TV and chances are I’ll always tune in. It’s one of those where you can turn on the TV halfway through the episode and instantly know what season it’s in and what’s happening! 😀
Also I really loved Game of Thrones and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, those are two of my more recent favourites! 🙂
Great post, and great picks for this week too.

I’ve actually been binge watching New Girl with my hubby recently and I absolutely adore it! I I wanted to include it on the list, but since I’m only halfway through (if that) I didn’t feel like I could include it! Thanks so much for the recs. I’ve never attempted HIMYM, but I’ll have to give it a go.

Aw, I love that! That show always makes me think of one of my friends/former employees that was OBSESSED. We used to play the Friends category on Heads Up every Saturday lol! I highly recommend Brooklyn, but it is addictive.
